JACKSON TOWNSHIP MAN FOUND GUILTY OF AGGRAVATED MANSLAUGHTER

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on February 21, 2025, J’Shawn Cutler, 28, of Jackson, was found guilty of Aggravated Manslaughter in connection with the death of Isaiah Renouf, 23, of Jackson, following a nearly month-long jury trial before the Honorable Kimarie Rahill, J.S.C.  Mr. Renouf’s death occurred in Jackson Township on June 19, 2020.  In rendering its verdict, the jury concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that Cutler recklessly caused the death of Mr. Renouf under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life.  The jury also found Cutler guilty of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.  Cutler is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Rahill on April 11, 2025, at which time he faces up to 30 years New Jersey State Prison – subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act.

On June 19, 2020, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call from a residence on Cannon Boulevard in reference to a wounded individual.  Responding Officers found Isaiah Renouf on the floor of the residence with a large wound to his chest.  Lifesaving measures were attempted at the scene; Mr. Renouf was then transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was pronounced deceased.  A post-mortem examination by the Ocean County Medical Examiner determined the cause of Mr. Renouf’s death to be a stab wound to the heart, and the manner of death to be homicide.  A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that Cutler stabbed Mr. Renouf in the residence and caused his death.  Cutler was apprehended on June 19, 2020 following a motor vehicle stop by Officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department.  Cutler has been detained in the Ocean County Jail since his apprehension.

Prosecutor Billhimer applauds the outstanding efforts of Chief Trial Attorney Kristin Pressman and Senior Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa Mandara who ably and skillfully tried the case on behalf of the State.  The Prosecutor likewise extends his gratitude to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad, Jackson Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department, Ocean County Department of Corrections, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, for their combined and collective efforts ultimately leading to today’s guilty verdicts.
