POINT PLEASANT BOROUGH MAN CHARGED WITH MANUFACTURING, DISTRIBUTION, AND POSSESSION OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on August 28, 2025, John Olson, 42, of Point Pleasant Borough, was charged with Manufacturing Child Sexual Abuse Material, Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material, and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.

This investigation was the result of a referral from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.  The ICAC Task Force received a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual was uploading images of child pornography via an internet application.

An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit identified an IP address associated with a Point Pleasant Borough residence as the location from which the individual was accessing and uploading images of Child Sexual Abuse Material from the internet.  That individual was ultimately identified as Olson.

On August 22, 2025, Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, and Point Pleasant Police Department, executed a court-authorized search warrant on Olson’s residence and seized several electronic devices. Further investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit revealed that Olson had utilized the internet application Kik to upload an image of Child Sexual Abuse material to other users.  Detectives also learned that Olson’s residence was being utilized as a foster home and that there were cameras in the children’s bedrooms.  On that date, Olson was charged with Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.  He was taken into custody and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.

A full forensic examination of the electronic devices seized during the execution of the search warrant on Olson’s residence revealed that a cell phone belonging to Olson contained nude images of children, which appear to have been taken by the cameras in the children’s bedrooms.  As a consequence, on August 28, 2025, Olson was additionally charged with the offenses referenced above.  Olson was served with the additional charges at the Ocean County Jail.

Prosecutor Billhimer commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Point Pleasant Borough Police Department, Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, for their collaborative assistance in connection with this investigation leading to Olson’s arrest.

The charges referenced above are merely accusations and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
