Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on January 16, 2026, Lloyd Ferrara, 30, of Toms River, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Driver’s License While Involved in a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, in connection with a motor vehicle crash that occurred in Brick Township on January 15, 2026.
On January 15, 2026, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Officers from the Brick Township Police Department responded to the area of Route 88 and Jack Martin Boulevard for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a motor vehicle and an electric scooter. An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit- Vehicular Homicide Squad and Brick Township Police Department revealed that a 1988 Ford pick-up truck – operated by Ferrara – was traveling westbound on Route 88 and attempted to make a right hand turn into a convenience store parking lot when it failed to yield to an electric scooter that was traveling eastbound on Route 88, causing a head-on collision. The driver of the electric scooter, a 40-year-old male, was ejected from the scooter and dragged under the pick-up truck for a short distance. The driver of the electric scooter was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Continuing investigation revealed that Ferrara was operating the motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license at the time of the crash, and the license plates on the pick-up truck were fictious.
Responding Officers observed that Ferrara appeared to be intoxicated at the scene. Based upon those observations, Officers attempted to administer the standardized field sobriety tests (FSTs) to Ferrara. Ferrara was unable to successfully perform the FSTs; as such, he was charged with Driving Under the Influence and placed under arrest. Ferrara was thereafter transported to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township, where a draw of his blood was obtained pursuant to a court-authorized warrant. The results of the blood draw remain pending. Ferrara was subsequently transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer acknowledges the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit, Brick Township Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, for their cooperative assistance in connection with this investigation.
The charges referenced above are merely accusations and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
