Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on January 27, 2026, at approximately 10:05 p.m., Officers from the Lakehurst Police Department responded to the area of Center Street and Hibernia Avenue for a report of a pedestrian having been struck by a motor vehicle which then fled the scene. A subsequent investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Lakehurst Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that the victim was traveling southbound on foot on Center Street when he was struck from the rear by an unknown motor vehicle, described as a light-colored gray or silver pickup truck. Following the impact, the operator of the pickup truck continued southbound on Center Street and failed to stop, render aid, or notify law enforcement. The victim was transported by emergency medical personnel to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of his injuries. He is currently listed in stable condition.
“This incident remains under investigation by the Lakehurst Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit. The light colored pickup truck in the background of this photograph is the best picture we have,” Prosecutor Billhimer stated. “Anyone in possession of information concerning this investigation is urged to contact Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Sergeant Anthony Carrington, III, at 732 929 2027, extension 3257,” Prosecutor Billhimer concluded.
