Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on May 8, 2026, the Honorable Pamela M. Snyder, J.S.C., ordered that Brian Lanzim, 37, of Bangor, Maine, shall remain detained in the Ocean County Jail on charges of three counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of Body Armor, Burglary, Terroristic Threats, and 22 counts of Possession of Large Capacity Ammunition Magazines, all in connection with events related to a non-fatal police officer involved shooting that occurred in South Toms River on April 29, 2026.
The detention hearing was handled by Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater.
The charges referenced above are merely accusations and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
