Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on July 14, 2025, Michael P. Gable, 56, of Berkeley Township, pled guilty to Causing Serious Bodily Injury to Another Person While Driving Unlicensed in connection with a motor vehicle crash that occurred in Beachwood on April 30, 2025. At the time of his sentencing on August 29, 2025, the State will be seeking a term of 364 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation.
On April 30, 2025, Officers from the Beachwood Police Department responded to the area of Mizzen Avenue and Locker Street for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist. An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Beachwood Police Department revealed that a 17-year-old minor was operating an electric bicycle northbound on Locker Street, when he was struck at the intersection of Locker Street and Mizzen Avenue by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Mizzen Avenue. The vehicle continued eastbound on Mizzen Avenue and failed to stop or call local authorities for assistance. The victim sustained serious injuries in the crash; he was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was treated and ultimately released.
Continuing investigation revealed that Gable was operating the subject vehicle at the time of the crash, and that he was an unlicensed driver. Gable was taken into custody without incident on April 30, 2025, and charged accordingly; he has been detained in the Ocean County Jail since that time.
Prosecutor Billhimer acknowledges the diligent efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Burke who is handling the case on behalf of the State, and commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Beachwood Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, for their combined and collective efforts in connection with this investigation.
