Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on August 26, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department responded to the area of Moorage Avenue and Sherman Avenue for a report of a crash involving a motor vehicle and an electric dirt bike.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Berkeley Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that an electric dirt bike – operated by an 11-year-old male with an 11-year-old female passenger – was traveling northbound on Sherman Avenue when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Sherman and Moorage Avenues. The electric dirt bike entered the intersection and struck the driver’s side door of a Ford F-250 pickup truck traveling westbound on Moorage Avenue.
As a result of the crash, the 11-year-old male operator was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was treated for his injuries and released. The 11-year-old female passenger was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River where she was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash. The operator of the Ford F-250 remained at the scene, possessed a valid driver’s license, and showed no signs of impairment.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Berkeley Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
