Coordinator of Forensic Nurse Examiners (Victims of Sexual Assault and Strangulation/Smothering Response Team Programs)


Position Summary

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office seeks qualified applicants for the Coordinator of Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs) (Victims of Sexual Assault and/or Strangulation/Smothering) position to oversee and administer the Ocean County Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) / Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) / Strangulation/Smothering Response Team (DVSRT) Programs.

This position coordinates forensic nursing services for victims of sexual assault and strangulation/smothering, ensures compliance with New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines, upholds high standards of victim-centered care, and supervises forensic nurse examiners participating in the county program. The position also oversees all clinical, administrative, fiscal functions, ensuring smooth daily operations and coordinated services countywide.

Examples of Work

  • Provide direct oversight of all SART and DVSRT activations, countywide.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable New Jersey Attorney General Standards and SART/DVSRT protocols and grant requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate 24/7 on-call staffing schedule and recruit, train, and evaluate the FNEs.
  • Perform and/or oversee forensic medical examinations for SART/DVSRT, including documentation review and evidence procedures.
  • Coordinate services with hospitals, law enforcement, prosecutors, and confidential sexual violence advocates.
  • Develop and conduct training and educational programs for SANE members.
  • Establish and monitor procedures for evidence collection, preservation, handling, and storage.
  • Maintain records, statistical reporting, quality assurance, and NJ-SAFE Kit tracking compliance.
  • Provide courtroom testimony and assist prosecutors in case preparation.
  • Promote trauma-informed care and continuity of services for victims.
  • Participate in statewide and county SANE/SART/DVSRT coordination meetings.
  • Prepare the annual grant, maintain grant documentation, and manage program supplies.

Education Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing recognized by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience in emergency medicine, women’s health, critical care, forensic nursing, or related field.
  • Experience conducting forensic medical examinations for sexual assaults and strangulation/smothering.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary teams and interaction with law enforcement and healthcare professionals preferred.
  • Supervisory or program administration experience preferred.

License / Certification Requirements

  • Valid New Jersey Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License.
  • Completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training.
  • Certification as a Forensic Nurse – Certified Sexual Assault Examiner (FN‑CSA) or eligibility.
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a prosecutor’s office or hospital-based forensic nursing program.
  • Familiarity with NJ Attorney General SART/SANE/DVSRT Guidelines.
  • Experience providing expert testimony in criminal proceedings.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Salary

$85,000 – $110,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
