Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Lakewood Township Chief of Police Gregory Meyer announced that on November 5, 2024, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to the intersection of Maplehurst Avenue and Cross Street for a report of a cyclist having been struck by a motor vehicle.  Responding Officers found a 35 year-old female victim in the roadway with serious bodily injuries.  An investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, determined that a vehicle was traveling northbound on Cross Street when it struck the cyclist, who was also traveling northbound on Cross Street.  The vehicle then fled the area.  The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she is listed in critical condition.
