Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on September 9, 2026, John Olson, 44, of Point Pleasant Borough, was indicted by a Grand Jury sitting in Ocean County on charges of Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material, four counts of Manufacturing Child Sexual Abuse Material, and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.
This investigation was the result of a referral from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force received a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual was sending/receiving images of child pornography from the internet.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad identified an IP address associated with a Point Pleasant Borough residence as the location from which the individual was sending/receiving images of child pornography from the internet – utilizing a Kik Messenger account. Further investigation into the Kik Messenger account resulted in Detectives locating an image of child sexual abuse material which had been uploaded and sent by Olson via Kik.
On August 22, 2025, Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad, Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, and Point Pleasant Police Department, executed a court-authorized search warrant on Olson’s residence and seized several electronic devices. Detectives also learned that Olson’s residence had served as a foster home in the past and that there were cameras in the children’s bedrooms. On that date, Olson was charged with Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. He was taken into custody and transported to the Ocean County Jail.
A full forensic examination of the electronic devices seized during the execution of the search warrant on Olson’s residence revealed that a cell phone belonging to Olson contained nude images of children, which appear to have been taken by the cameras in the children’s bedrooms. As a consequence, on August 28, 2025, Olson was additionally charged with the offenses referenced above. Olson was served with the additional charges at the Ocean County Jail. On August 29, 2026, Olson was released from the Ocean County Jail as a consequence of New Jersey Bail Reform.
Prosecutor Billhimer acknowledges the diligent efforts of Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Shanon Chant-Berry who presented the case to the Grand Jury on behalf of the State, and commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad, Point Pleasant Borough Police Department, Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, for their collaborative assistance in connection with this investigation.
The charges referenced above are merely accusations and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
