TOMS RIVER MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on June 9, 2022, Kevin Wurtenberg, 38, of Toms River was charged with Possession of Child Pornography in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(5)bIII.

 

This investigation was the result of referrals from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.  The Task Force detected that a Verizon Wireless user was downloading images of child pornography from the internet.  An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit identified a Verizon Wireless user with a Toms River address as the person downloading the images of child pornography.  On June 9, 2022, Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, United States Department of Homeland Security – Investigations Unit, and Toms River Township Police Department, executed a court-authorized search warrant on Wurtenberg’s residence in Toms River.  As a result, Detectives seized two cell phones from the residence containing several hundred images of child pornography.  Wurtenberg was subsequently arrested at his residence.  Wurtenberg was processed at the Toms River Township Police Department, and transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is currently lodged pending a detention hearing.

 

Prosecutor Billhimer commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Toms River Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the United States Department of Homeland Security – Investigations Unit, for their collaborative assistance in connection with this investigation leading to Wurtenberg’s arrest.

 

The charges referenced above are merely accusations and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
