TOMS RIVER MAN SENTENCED TO STATE PRISON FOR WEAPON AND NARCOTICS DISTRIBUTION OFFENSES

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on January 16, 2026, Chardel Holman, 41, of Toms River, was sentenced by the Honorable Guy P. Ryan, P.J.Cr.P., to five years New Jersey State Prison (NJSP) with a five year period of parole ineligibility relative to his previously entered guilty plea to being a Certain Person Not to Possess a Weapon in connection with an incident that occurred on February 12, 2025, in Toms River.  Additionally, Judge Ryan sentenced Holman to five years NJSP relative to his previously entered guilty plea to Conspiracy to Possess Less than One Half Ounce of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute in connection with an incident that occurred in Little Egg Harbor on September 13, 2025.  The sentences will run concurrently.  Holman pled guilty to both charges before Judge Ryan on November 17, 2025.

 

On February 12, 2025, Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department were summoned to the area of Cedar Grove Road and Edken Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle crash.  Responding Officers discovered a Toyota Sienna parked on top of a snowbank with a male – later identified as Holman – asleep in the driver’s seat.  As Officers removed Holman from the vehicle, they observed a handgun in plain view in the center console of the vehicle.  A search incident to Holman’s arrest led to Officers discovering a quantity of cocaine on Holman’s person.  Further investigation revealed that Holman had a prior conviction for Terroristic Threats – making him a certain person never to lawfully possess a firearm in the State of New Jersey.  Holman was taken into custody and charged accordingly.  He was transported to the Ocean County Jail and released as a consequence of New Jersey Bail Reform.

 

On September 13, 2025, Detectives from the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit and Stafford Township Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit were conducting a narcotics-related investigation near the Walmart store in Little Egg Harbor.  Detectives observed Holman and another individual in a motor vehicle in the parking lot of the store.  Detectives attempted to effectuate a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle operated by Holman, and he drove away at a high rate of speed.  As Detectives continued to effectuate the motor stop, they observed Holman throwing a bag from the driver’s side window.  Holman proceeded to park the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.  A foot pursuit occurred, and Holman was ultimately taken into custody.  Detectives located the bag that Holman had thrown from the vehicle and found it to contain a quantity of cocaine.  Holman was charged accordingly and transported to the Ocean County Jail where he has been lodged since that date.

 

Prosecutor Billhimer acknowledges the diligent efforts of Senior Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Burke who  handled the case on behalf of the State, and commends the Toms River Township Police Department, Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit, and Stafford Township Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit, for their combined efforts in connection with these investigation leading to Holman’s guilty pleas, and now his state prison sentence.
