Chief Of Detectives

Chief Casey M. Long began his law enforcement career upon graduating from the Ocean County Police Academy in May 1999. Shortly after graduation, Chief Long was hired by the Ocean Township Police Department where he worked in the patrol division. In 2003, Chief Long accepted a position with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office as an Investigator working in the Litigation Bureau assigned to the Trial Unit. In 2004, Chief Long returned to the Ocean Township Police Department where he was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2007, Chief Long was hired by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office as an Investigator assigned to the Grand Jury Unit.

 

In 2008, Chief Long was assigned to the Major Crime Unit where he was tasked with investigating homicides, suicides, industrial accidents, accidental deaths, and missing person cases. In 2012, Chief Long was assigned to the Narcotics Strike Force where he conducted investigations into narcotics offenses, firearms, and gang-related activities. In 2019, Chief Long was promoted to Sergeant of Detectives and supervised the day-to-day operations at the Narcotics Strike Force.

 

In 2021, Chief Long was promoted to Lieutenant of Detectives and assigned to the Major Crime Unit where he supervised homicide, vehicular homicide, arson, cold case homicide, and firearms training squads. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2024.

 

From July through September 2024, Chief Long attended and graduated from the 291st session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

 

On December 1, 2025, Chief Long was promoted to Chief of County Detectives by Prosecutor Billhimer, leading the entire investigative staff of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

Chief Long holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University and continues to teach various investigative and leadership courses. Chief Long was previously an adjunct professor at Ocean County College and Rowan College at Burlington County.
